RBI has issued another warning about scam e-mails & SMSs, and has asked people to stay away from such messages. 

E-mails, usually from foreign countries, claiming you have won a lottery prize worth millions of dollars, seeking your account details for verification, are old hat. RBI itself has been the target of scamsters who have used its name in a fake e-mail asking people for personal details for verification. RBI never asks for these details through e-mail.....

Increased the students who were victims of bullying to the Internet

An interesting study reveals that 28.3% of Greek students have fallen victim "kyvernoekfovismou" (cyberbullying), while 14.6% admitted to have been "terrified" other.

The survey was conducted by the Greek Society for the Study of Internet Addiction Disorder and Prevention Center OKANA Kos.

Even according to the findings, girls are more often victims of bullying on the Internet, while boys are more often perpetrators. The phenomena of cyberbullying (usually through a social network, email and forum) is particularly high in the world and their consequences are particularly harmful to child psychology and performance in school.....

Facebook can get school employees fired

 School administrators are increasingly facing dilemma stemming from social networking that goes beyond thwartingcyber-bullying among students. They are also faced with balancing the rights ofprivacy and free speech of educators with what should be the appropriate behaviour of teachers as role models.


A large number of educators have been fired for Internet activity. Some teachers have been dismissed for behaviour such as posting a picture of themselves holding a glass of wine.

Facebook hopes to re-friend China despite censors

As Facebook prepares to go public it has its sights on China, where the social media titan is blocked, but analysts say its chances of re-entering the market of half a billion Internet users are slim. 

Facebook, which has more than 800 million users around the world, is the leading social network in all but six countries, notably Russia, where local rivals are preferred, and China, where it has been banned for years. 

Beijing blocked Facebook along with micro-blogging site Twitter after blaming it for fanning social unrest in the northwestern region of Xinjiang in 2009, though many web users access the site via virtual proxy networks. 

Prior to the ban, web users in China enjoyed uncensored access to Facebook....

Cyber crime 'to overtake terrorism' as top threat facing the US

Iran has been identified as the main cyber threat to the United States as the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) claims that intrusions are not being detected. The report by DNI James R. Clapper identified Iran as the main danger to America's information security.

It said: “Russia and China are aggressive and successful purveyors of economic espionage against the United States. Iran's intelligence operations against the United States, including cyber capabilities, have dramatically increased in recent years in depth and complexity. We assess that FIS (foreign intelligence services) from these three countries will remain the top threats to the United States in the coming years.”

He also claimed that FIS have launched numerous computer network operations that target US government agencies, businesses and universities, and believed that "many intrusions into US networks are not being detected".

Nigerians use IPL name to run fake lottery scam

An organised gang of ‘phishing’ fraudsters, with no connection to the game of cricket per se, and being run by four Nigerians from two south Delhi flats, found a unique use for the popular IPL franchise.
Chukwulota, 33, and Benjamin, 35, had cheated several victims on the pretext of a bogus, non-existent lottery by sending fake text and email messages with official logos of the International Cricket Council (DLF-IPL).

The gang had misused the official logos of DLF-IPL, the Mumbai International Airport, the Airport Authority of India, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Board of Excise and Customs and even the United Nations (UN) to allure victims.

The gang used to send text messages or emails at random claiming that the victim had won a certain amount in the IPL lottery or a similar scheme and asked them to send personal details to their UK office...

Anonymous hacks into SLPD's website over graffiti bill

The activist group Anonymous has struck the Salt Lake Police Department, hacking into its website,  www.slpd.com and forcing a temporary shutdown. Anonymous said it targeted the police department because officers will be the "foot soldiers" for state Sen. Karen Mayne's anti-graffiti bill should it pass.....


Anonymous is an activist cyber group that strikes out over causes by hacking websites. In January, it took down a police chiefs association website in Utah over its protest of controversial anti-piracy bills under consideration by Congress. In protest over the same issue at about the same time, the group also took down prominent websites such as the U.S. Department of Justice.

A 22-year-old student in south-western Poland was arrested on Friday for allegedly hacking the prime minister's website, part of a protest against a recently signed anti-piracy treaty, TVN 24 reported.

3 Calif. students arrested for grade tampering

Three Palos Verdes High School juniors were arrested Thursday as police investigate a burglary related to an alleged grade-tampering scheme.


The teens are accused of repeatedly breaking into classrooms late at night, hacking into four teachers' computers and changing their grades online.

The teens are accused of attaching devices called "keyloggers" to the USB connectors on the computers, which tracked teachers' keystrokes as they typed in usernames, passwords and other confidential information.............

3 Northwest Arkansas Teens Arrested In Cyberbullying Investigation

Three northwest Arkansas teen girls were busted for cyberbullying today.

Police say the girls included a 16-year-old from Bentonville, a 16-year-old from Lowell, and a 17-year-old from Bella Vista. All three teens posted to the bullying account and at least one created it.

Bentonville superintendent Michael Poore says police have been working hard to track down the people behind the hateful messages posted on the twitter account 'burnbook-ten.'

U.S. federal government's online security website hacked

Hackers under the AntiSec banner appeared to have hacked late Monday, Jan 23, the website of OnGuardOnline.gov, the U.S. federal government's online security website, in protest against controversial legislation.

The hackers threatened "a relentless war against the corporate internet", destroying what it said would be "dozens upon dozens" of government and company websites, if the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA), Protect IP Act (PIPA) and Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) are passed........

Bentonville 12-year-old arrested for Twitter posts

Authorities say a 12-year-old middle school student has been arrested for postings on Twitter that made derogatory comments about some Bentonville High School students.

Authorities say that postings from two Twitter accounts — one called Freezebook and one called Burnbook10 — included racist, homophobic and other comments about students. According to the Benton County Daily Record, one tweet encouraged a student to commit suicide; another taunted a student for allegedly having an eating disorder.

Japanese cops cuff six smut-scam ransomware suspects

Japanese police have arrested six suspected cyber-crooks over a one-click billing fraud scam that allegedly targeted sweaty smut surfers. The Kyoto-based gang allegedly used malware to run a billing fraud against victims, netting them JPY12,000,000 (about $148,800 or £96,000) in the process.

The suspected cyber-criminals are accused of crafting a devious strain of malware and embedding it into grumble-flick websites. Upon visiting said saucy sites, punters who clicked on the ‘play’ button to watch a video ended up executing a file that locks up their machine. Victims are told to either pay up to unfreeze their computer or weep over their almost unusable machine.......

Feds cuff coder accused of US bank source code swipe

A computer programmer has been charged with stealing source code worth $9.5m from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, according to the FBI and prosecutors.

Bo Zhang, a 32-year-old from Queens in New York, was cuffed on suspicion of swiping the Government-wide Accounting and Reporting (GWA) software, used to help keep track of the US government's finances. Among other things, the GWA handles ledger accounting for each appropriation, fund, and receipt within the Department of the Treasury, and provides federal agencies with an account statement - similar to bank statements provided to bank customers - of the agencies’ account balances with the United States Treasury.......
