As stated in the NATO Strategic Concept, cyber attacks are one of the top three threats facing the Alliance in today's world in which life without computers is unimaginable. As such, in order to help resist and deter new threats to international security through the multiplication of often sophisticated cyber attacks, NATO has been working with some of the world’s biggest private cyber security companies to share knowledge and experience.
In 2012, a new cyber defence package, with a first tranche of €28 million, will enhance NATO's capabilities to monitor and react to cyber incidents with its networks; equipment will be modernised and reaction teams upgraded.
